Easy Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread

This is an easy chocolate chip pumpkin bread recipe that is moist and packed with chocolate chips, and it’s a delicious recipe to make in the fall.

I love the smell of this easy chocolate chip pumpkin bread recipe baking in the oven because it makes my entire house smell delicious. And the milk chocolate chips added a perfect sweetness to the recipe.

I decided to make this homemade pumpkin bread one afternoon for a snack when my kids got home from school. I couldn’t wait for it to come out of the oven because it smelled so good. And when my kids got home, they were so excited for the snack. They loved it so much that they ate multiple pieces.

A few days later my little boy told some people how much he loved pumpkin bread. I smiled at that comment and then decided to make this simple pumpkin bread recipe again so he could have more pumpkin bread.

When making this pumpkin bread with chocolate chips, here are some questions that are often asked:

Why Is My Pumpkin Bread Dry?

There are a combination of things that could make your pumpkin bread dry, such as too much flour, not enough pumpkin puree or liquid, over-mixing your batter, or baking the bread on too high of a temperature.

By not having the right amount of pumpkin puree, the flour will make the batter thicker which will lead to crumbly and dry bread. Also, overcooking bread or baking it at too high of a temperature will make it denser and dry.

If you follow this pumpkin bread chocolate chip recipe below, your pumpkin bread should turn out moist and delicious.

What Goes Good in Pumpkin Bread?

I think this homemade pumpkin recipe is perfect to eat the way it is. However, if you want, you could take out the chocolate chips. Or you can also make chocolate chip pumpkin bread with walnuts. Before eating, you could serve the pumpkin bread with cream cheese, butter, apple butter, honey cinnamon butter or a hazelnut spread (such as Nutella).

How Do You Know When Pumpkin Bread Is Done?

To check if pumpkin bread is done, insert a toothpick in a couple of spots of the pumpkin bread. Usually where the bread cracks across the top of the pumpkin bread is a good area to check. When the toothpick comes out clean, the pumpkin bread is done. If not, bake 5-10 minutes more then recheck.

Baking Tip: Sometimes the center of the pumpkin bread is not done, yet the top of the pumpkin bread looks done and you don’t want the top to brown any more. If this is the case, then lightly cover the top of each loaf with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning and and continue baking 5-10 minutes until the center is done.

Can You Make Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can definitely make this easy chocolate chip pumpkin bread ahead of time. Store it correctly in an air-tight sealed container or a gallon re-sealable plastic bag, and it should store for up to a week. If my family doesn’t eat the bread within a few days, I’ll put it in the fridge so it keeps longer.

How to make pumpkin bread

Bake at 350 degrees for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow the pumpkin bread to cool for a few minutes in the pans, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool.

Baking Tip: Here is a tip when you check the pumpkin bread before taking it out of the oven. If the center of the bread is not done, and you don’t want the tops of the bread to brown more, then lightly cover the top of each loaf with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning and and continue baking 5-10 minutes until the center is done.
