Congo Bars

July 12, 2013 by Lisa Park + 2 Comments

Congo Bars Last Final

I made these Congo Bars to take to a family party, and they are oh so good! I just love how the chocolate chips are yummy and gooey. This is definitely a recipe you’ll want to have on hand to take to a friends or family get together or just to make for the kids.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • ⅔ cup butter, softened
  • 3 eggs, whisked
  • 2½ cups flour
  • 2¼ tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 bag chocolate chips (12 oz.)
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, cream the sugar and butter. Add in the eggs and stir until combined.
  2. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Pour the dry ingredients into the butter mixture. Stir in the bag of chocolate chips.
  3. Lightly grease a 13x9 pan with shortening, then dust it with flour. Press dough into the pan using a spatula.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes at 325 degrees. Test the center with a toothpick. The dough should still be soft in the center. Allow the bars to cool before serving.

Because older children tend to want more expensive gifts than the younger siblings, try this budgeting method to determine how much to spend on each child. First: Add together the ages of your kids. Johnny, 5; Sally, 7; Joe, 12 = 24 Second: Divide the Christmas budget total for the kids by the sum of their ages. Let's say the Christmas budget is $500. $500/24 = $20.83 I rounded it to $21 to make it easier to calculate   Third:Take the number from above and multiply each child's age. $21 x 5 = $105
$21 x 7 = $147
$21 x 12 = $252 You would spend the amount of money above on each child for Christmas. What tips do you have to budget for Christmas? #christmasbudget #christmaspurchases #christmasspending
