I had some friends tell me how good these Streusel Caramel Bars were, so I knew I had to try them out for myself. Sure enough, they were really delicious! Thanks to a friend for sharing this recipe.
Streusel Caramel Bars
1 3/4 cup flour
1 cup oats
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup cold butter
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Using an electric mixer on low speed, combine flour, oats, sugar, egg, and salt. Also on low speed cut in butter until crumbly. Only press half of the mixture firmly on the bottom of a greased 9×13 pan. Bake 15 minutes.
Caramel:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup Karo syrup
1/4 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
To make the caramel, combine the sugar, milk, Karo syrup, and butter in a saucepan. Simmer about 10 minutes stirring occasionally so it won’t burn. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour caramel over crust and sprinkle the other half of the crumb mixture on top. Bake for 20 minutes or until bubbly.
