This homemade marinara recipe is one my mother taught me to make, and I think it tastes really good. Unless you can find a good deal on name brand pasta sauces at the store, this is definitely a more cost effective way to feed your family. I also made the Italian Breadsticks to go with our dinner.
Pasta Sauce
1/2 lb. hamburger, cooked
1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
3 cans (8 oz) tomato sauce
2 Tablespoons sugar
2-3 garlic cloves, pressed or chopped finely
2 teaspoons basil, crumbled
1/4 teaspoon oregano leaves, crumbled
parsley flakes, crumbled
garlic salt, a little to taste
3-4 Tablespoons water
Directions:
Cook and brown hamburger. Add tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, spices, and water, then let simmer for 10-15 minutes. Use fresh herbs to make it even better. Pour sauce over pasta.
