When I found this Italian Breadstick recipe, I was excited to try it out. They turned out to be really delicious! I made these and a lasagna recipe when I hosted a group of friends at my house. My husband commented that he liked them a lot. I will definitely be making these breadsticks more often.
Italian Breadsticks
1 cup warm water
2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
3 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Topping:
2 Tablespoons butter, melted
2 Tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Directions:
Place warm water in a bowl with yeast. Then sprinkle 1 teaspoon sugar on top of yeast, set aside and let proof for 10 minutes. In separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, 2 T. sugar, Italian seasoning and garlic powder. In mixing bowl, place 3 T. butter, then alternate adding proofed yeast and the combined dry ingredients. Mix well for a few minutes.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (1-2 hours). Then divide the dough into 12 balls and form into 4-6 inch ropes. Cover and let rise for 20 minutes or until doubled. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
Mix the butter and parmesan cheese and brush over the breadsticks as soon as they come out of the oven.
