I made these homemade rolls for dinner last night. I know they turned out good because my husband ate four of them during dinner. I thought I’d share the recipe with all of you.
Homemade Rolls
1 package yeast
1 cup water
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
4 cups flour (Bread flour preferred. Can substitute in 1 cup of wheat flour)
1 teaspoon salt
Place yeast in 1 cup warm water in small bowl with 1 teaspoon sugar on top. Set aside to proof 10 minutes. In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening, butter, and sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time. In a separate bowl or measuring cup, mix flour and salt. Alternate adding in the flour and yeast.
Roll out the dough 1/2 inch thick. Cut out (I use a medium sized peanut butter lid to cut them out). Score with a knife off to one side. Place some butter on a pan and melt in oven for a few minutes. Dip each roll in melted butter, fold, and pinch. Let them rise for about 2 hours. Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
I love homemade rolls. I really like the way you shaped these!!
