One of our family traditions for both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners is to have these Old-Fashioned Mashed Potatoes. They taste so much better when they are freshly made rather than making them from a box.
- 12 medium potatoes
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 4 Tablespoons butter
- 1 to 1½ cups milk
- Wash, peel, and quarter potatoes. Place potatoes in a large pot filled with cold water. Throw in a dash of salt. Bring to a boil and cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes until tender.
- Drain almost all of the water (leave about ½ to 1 cup water in pan). Add butter, 1 tsp. salt, and pepper. Slowly add in milk a little at a time and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
