Homemade Brownies

Years ago when I was a kid, I had a few neighborhood friends over one day. As we were talking we decided to make brownies. I began to get all of the ingredients out of the cupboard to make these homemade brownies, then one of the girls said, “Don’t you have a box of brownie mix?” I looked at her and said, “You can buy brownie mixes?” I always had made these homemade brownies with my mom, and I didn’t know you could buy it in a box (LOL). I’m not a fan of just any brownie because after growing up with these delicious brownies, they have become my favorite! Try them out, and you’ll see why.

Homemade Brownies
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
4 Tablespoons cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup nuts (optional)

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, sugar, and eggs. Then add the vanilla. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the cream mixture and mix well. Add nuts if desired. Place in a greased 9×13 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Fudge Frosting
2 cups powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon cocoa
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 Tablespoons butter, softened
2 Tablespoons boiling water

Mix sugar, cocoa, and salt. Add water, vanilla, and butter. Beat until smooth, frost brownies immediately.
